BY LEANING ON EACH OTHER WE BECOME STRONG

‘Even when you tear its petals off one after another, the rose keeps laughing and doesn't bend in pain. "Why should I be afflicted because of a thorn? It is the thorn which taught me how to laugh." Whatever you lost through fate, be certain that it saved you from pain.’ – Rumi

Steel Petals wishes to invite you to write a poem that will potentially feature in our book.

The book will be a compilation of selected poems submitted by you, presented on a kindle version or paperback book that can be purchased on Amazon or via our website.

CLAIRE L MONAGHAN

AUTHOR AND FOUNDER OF STEEL PETALS

C.L. Monaghan was born and raised in Lincolnshire in the UK, though she's lived in South Africa (a land of adventure and cheetah kisses!!) and has been known to pop across the pond to the US for book events.

A B.A. honours degree in History and English literature feeds her creative and ensnaring paranormal romance and gothic mystery novels, which have won several awards to date, including placing as finalists in their genres in the IAN Book of the Year Awards in 2017 and Readers' Favourite Awards in 2018 for excellence in writing.

An avid reader first, she was inspired by J.R.R. Tolkein, Enid Blyton, Stephen King, Terry Pratchett, and friend and mentor, indie author Ednah Walters (RIP), who encouraged C.L. to write what she wanted to read. And so, C.L. Monaghan's debut novel, Immaginario, brought her book boyfriend to life!

C.L. Monaghan, a self confessed Scotophile, now lives in Scotland with her husband and children whom she homeschools, 2 cats (it's customary for writers to own several cats) and Casper the miniature schnauzer.

To The Strongest Person They Know

She's not brave, she's choiceless.
She's no warrior, she's the lucky loser.
It's not her journey, it's her nightmare.
She doesn't want to inspire, she wants to live.
She tries to push through, but she's dying inside.
She's the strongest person they know.
She's a porcelain doll with a painted smile.
She's all of this.
She's a survivor.

A TRULY HEALING BLOOM

An interesting and symbolic fact about Sunflowers is that they grow graciously tall, soak up radiation and other harmful pollutants. They are a sign of healing, combined by the bumblebee who plays a key role in health, regeneration and growth when working together as a colony. The steel element symbolises strength and solidarity.

All of these components combined make up the meaning behind our logo and mission.

However, knowing about some of the literary devices a poet uses, will help you to understand their meaning. There may be many interpretations of a poem, depending on how it relates to the reader. I would like to offer you some basic tools to guide you through...
